A
medium sized gas transmission pipeline was constructed in the
vicinity of the Great Lakes. One of the
compressor stations was, for system hydraulic reasons, located
adjacent to a sensitive residential district. The client promised that the facility would be inaudible
at the nearest residential sites. Ambient noise surveys indicated that the compressor
station facility would have to contribute less than 36 dBA at
the fenceline of the property. In conjunction with the gas turbine compressor package
supplier an achievable specification for the combustion turbine
exhaust and package ventilation systems was derived. Onerous
building envelope noise emission limits were developed along
with strict limits on the extent of exposed pipework and noise emissions from the gas metering system. Ultra low noise cooling systems for the compressed gas
were also required. With the use of VFD’s and the best fans
available, compliance with the requirements was achieved. |
